Skin Care Trends 2021 | Trending skin care products in 2021

2021 – the year of the pandemic, has become the period of getting back to basics and living cautiously. The global epidemic has made us aware of the importance of the ecosystem, and how not to play with its fragility. Greta Thunberg was right when she said that we, as a species, can no longer afford to make choices independent of consequences.

People have become aware of the choices they have made in all aspects of their lives – lifestyle, spending and eating habits, and even what they wear on their bodies and on their skin, making conscious efforts. Everyone has realized the importance of taking care of yourself. We have also somehow figured out the damage we have done to the environment, due to which many natural and home-made skin and hair care crafts have seen the day.

Now, if you are a skin care enthusiast like me, you must know all the ingredients that supported 2021. If not, read on to find out.

Vitamin C

If there is anything that could be one of the premium skin care ingredients, present in everyone’s vanities, it’s Vitamin C! Besides its glowing properties, it also regenerates and repairs the skin, giving it an instant glow!

Retinol has been talked about and is a hot topic in the skin care industry today. It has gone from being an unknown ingredient to being one of the most demanded ingredients in skin care. We start to see skin changes such as larger pores, initial uneven skin tone and pigmentation, fine lines on the upper face as we get older. Add retinol to your skin care routines after 25 to prevent further signs of aging.

Hyaluronic acid

The essential ingredient in the beauty industry, which can also be said as the hydration magnet, is definitely an ingredient that has reigned over vanities as it keeps skin nourished, plumped and hydrated. I think it’s the right molecule that quenches your skin’s thirst while leaving it feeling healthy.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic Acid is the known skin care superhero which is one of the best ingredients to help banish acne problems. This stain remover acid is formulated in a myriad of skin care products, from targeted treatments to toners, serums and creams, and is rightfully a savior for people with acne prone skin!

Now, niacinamide has been on the market for quite some time now. What I do know is that it is a magical ingredient for people who want to treat their acne, acne spots, and dryness. Globally, it is considered to be the powerhouse of antioxidants that our bodies need every day to fight all signs of aging and prevent all early signs such as fine lines, spots, wrinkles and bags under the eyes.

Pre / Probiotics

Since we continue to collaborate with trendy, top notch, clean brands at Vanity Wagon, we have noticed that many brands are now venturing to use pro and prebiotics in skin care. Apparently, products infused with probiotics add bacteria to the skin and help it maintain its optimal balance. Although they are presently present in some skin care products, they are going to be used exponentially as research on prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics advances.

A dry skin saver and the trending moisturizer ingredient you need to quench your skin’s thirst is squalane (not squalene!) But don’t get confused with hyaluronic acid. Where both tend to appear naturally in our bodies (and both are trending ingredients), their benefits as skin care ingredients are different. Hyaluronic acid is excellent for retaining moisture already present in the skin while squalane regenerates dry skin by adding moisture.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is one of the most prolific botanical ingredients used for personal care that is best known to everyone. It is mainly known for its cooling and anti-inflammatory properties. Not so long ago, the beauty industry realized its powerful and potent use to treat almost anything and everything and hence can safely be called the jack-of-all-trades!

Collagen is basically a protein, and proteins are already present and are the building blocks of our skin. However, as we age, the natural amount of collagen decreases. But since the discovery of collagen-boosting skin care products, we’ve seen fewer wrinkles and increased elasticity and firmness in the skin. Hence, you will definitely see the sudden increase in collagen products in the current and future beauty industry.

Long before Bakuchiol was used in skin care products, it was already used in Indian Ayurvedic treatments and conditions. It has antioxidant and anti-aging properties. And if you connect the dots here, it’s definitely the new natural plant-based alternative to retinol!

Beauty supplements

The increase in the number of oral skin care supplements is sure to become a trend in the years to come. People are more and more aware of what they put on their skin, as well as on their bodies. And we’re not just talking about capsules. High potency gums and powders are the next wave of skin care supplements.
