Perfume is one of the most evocative human experiences.
Think about how certain smells evoke the most hidden memories. You will be in a kitchen, and a whiff of cooking will remind you of something your grandma could have done when you were a child.
You might run into someone on the street, their aftershave or scent reminding you of a friend, maybe an old lover.
It was this evocation and the power of perfume that prompted aromatherapist Bella Middleton to launch Norfolk Natural Living, which now has two stores (Utility and Perfumery) in Holt.
Already operating a successful men’s skin care brand with her husband, when she had her first child, Bella became more aware of everything she put on her family’s skin … and used in her family. their house.
“My son would eat more food off the table than off a plate,” said Bella, “and I was like,” What am I cleaning this with and is it safe? “.
Bella began to refer to a line of products under the Norfolk Natural Living brand, the cornerstones of the company’s ethics being environmental friendliness, skin-friendliness and mood enhancement because, as she puts it, “why shouldn’t you get a little essential oil boost while you’re cleaning the toilet or doing the dishes?” “.
âEverything is made in-house, from the products to their packaging, and always at the heart of well-being. How what we manufacture can benefit our customers every day. I like the fact that we create things that are beautiful, that give visual pleasure, but also have a function. There is joy on many levels.
Going into perfumes, home fragrances and skin care was a natural extension of the business, with the perfumery loaded with dozens of beautiful, inspiring Norfolk-made gifts ready to be given at Christmas.
Made without nasty products, each product is natural and âthese are blends that I have created and used for years,â says Bella.
The range includes eau de parfum, essential oil blends, gemstone diffusers, candles, legume oils, soaps, roll-on fragrances and pure essential oils.
“They’re good to have around the house,” said Bella. âYou can use them for so many things and in fact we sell a sort of ‘first aid kit’ made from essential oils. It includes recipes that I use all the time to relieve common ailments. So, for example, using geranium oil for cold sores. There are nine oils included. They’re completely natural and will last for centuries, âshe adds, saying individual oils often come with recipe tips.
âBefore, with an essential oil, I always had trouble knowing what to use them for. There’s been a lot of research because the bottles don’t instantly tell you what to do.
âI like the idea of ââbeing able to pass on my knowledge – to blend in with a little education – it’s an integral part of our job.
Bella’s Three Best Norfolk Natural Living Scents
Coastal walks. It’s a favorite for many of our customers. It’s a musky scent but also very fresh, with thyme, bergamot, lemon, ylang ylang, jasmine and pine needle.
I would go for 91 Days of Spring which is so light and fresh, with notes of lemon, orange blossom, neroli, petitgrain, jasmine, patchouli and incense.
Something completely different is Mid Winter 21. It’s quite heavy with tonka bean and vanilla but also quite dark, with orange blossom, amber and cedarwood.
